Brief History
- The
oldest Suffolk Stud in Australia, was established in 1923
No. 28
in volume 19 of the British Breed Flock Book
- 1n
1961 the stud was awarded Champion Ram with Burwood 1100 at
Adelaide Royal.
- In
1980, after an abscence from the show-ring for 19 years, the
Stud won Reserve Champion Ram and was most successful breeder
at the Royal Adelaide Show.
- In
1990 Burwood "scooped the pools" at the Melbourne Royal where
the Suffolk was Feature Breed. Judged under an international
judge Burwood claimed Champion & Reserve Champion Rams
and also most successful exhibitor.
- Burwood
has sold Stud Rams to the Imperial Stock Farm in Japan and
many ewes to China over the past years.
- Burwood
"Hurricane" 1076/04, a son of Sonning 607, was sold
at our Annual Ram Sale in 2005 for $6500 to Western Australia
(photo below far right).
- Semen
enquiries are welcome
- The
Stud is currently running 100 ewes.
Although over the years Burwood has
been successful in the show ring the Stud maintains a commercial
focus.
Terminal genetics
have made significant gains over the past decade and it is
Burwood's
aim to assist in improving client profitability by producing
sires that are capable of
increasing lamb production.

Suffolk Breeders Association in 1989, the fourth Life Membership
to be awarded in Australia |
